Going Green at the Jiffy Steamer Plant

Going Green at the Jiffy Steamer Plant

February 9, 2022

Jiffy Steamer has always taken pride in offering an eco-friendly product. Our steamers don’t require the use of any of the harsh chemicals used by dry cleaners. All that you have to add for powerful steam is just tap water.

But over a decade ago, we took a huge step toward making our manufacturing process as green as possible—we implemented a recycling initiative to decrease the landfill waste we were producing.

The plan was to start recycling everything that could be recycled. Today, brass, copper, aluminum, stainless steel, iron, office paper, corrugated material and all plastics are sorted and recycled at the Jiffy plant.

The Jiffy Steamer recycling program has been wildly effective. We are eliminating tons of landfill waste—literally tons. Since the launch of the program in 2007, we have recycled 103,776.32 tons of metal, plastic and paper materials that would otherwise have ended up in the landfill. That translates to 1,654,628 pounds of material! Over a decade ago, we saw almost 24 yards of landfill waste leaving the Jiffy plant every week. Now, that number is down to less than 8 yards per week. We are looking forward to seeing how our efforts make the right impact into the next decade.

It’s important to us that we play our part in keeping the world a beautiful place and our recycling program helps us do that. We’ll continue to work on improving our manufacturing process, because while we’re proud of how far we’ve come, we’re not planning on stopping our progress here!
