This week, we’re taking you through the history of our handheld Jiffy Steamer—the ESTEAM model. The ESTEAM remains the best handheld clothing steamer on the market 20 years after its launch in 1995, delivering the power of Jiffy’s industry-leading steam technology in a conveniently small size.
Throughout Jiffy’s history, we have constantly asked ourselves, “What’s next for Jiffy’s steam technology?” In the 1970s, Bill Simrell, the second-generation Jiffy Steamer CEO, realized that the handheld model could be the next generation of Jiffy Steamers.
But he decided not to rush into it. Instead, Bill spent years perfecting the most powerful handheld steamer on the market—despite being told it couldn’t be done.
For a long time, the best handheld models were 200 to 300-watt steamers. Not wanting to release a weak steamer that could not deliver the best possible results, Bill sought out the best in high-temperature polymers and designed a 600 to 700-watt steamer that lived up to his high standards.
After years of development, Jiffy released the ESTEAM travel steamer that our customers still use and love today.
Where did the name come from? It’s a family name, because we’re a family company. Bill toyed with hundreds of potential names before deciding to honor his mother by naming the latest in Jiffy Steamer innovation after her.
The big “E” you see in the logo on your ESTEAM stands for Estelle—it’s a lasting tribute to a beloved member of the Jiffy Steamer family.
